Tami Stronach Dance

Mother Tongue 

"Mother Tongue" is a solo about the process of tracing the evaporating threads of memories. Set to Persian folk songs and the sounds of the Persian language, Stronach searches for the familiar in the rhythms of what once was her mother tongue, now completely forgotten. Stronach was born in Iran to British and Israeli parents who were working there as archeologists. Her family fled during the revolution of 1979. In this dance, old film footage from an archeological site her parents were working on is transformed by video artists Katya Moorman and Karen L Dunn into a conversation with Tami's own excavation of how experience is captured in the body, in the way one moves and in the gestures that feel like home to us.
